On this day in 1919, on the first anniversary of World War I, our country dubbed “Armistice Day” a national holiday.
That was later changed into what we know as Veterans Day. On this centennial anniversary of the holiday, we celebrate and honor those who have served or are currently serving in our nation’s military.

In 2018, there were counted over 18.2 million living veterans who served in at least one war, and Veterans Day gives us all a chance to say thank you to them for their service. The military men and women who serve and protect the U.S. come from all walks of life; they are parents, children, grandparents, friends, neighbors and coworkers, and are an important part of their communities.

Congressional candidate and Mayor of Mission Viejo Colonel Greg Raths USMC (RET) knows firsthand the dedication veterans have made for our safety and security. Raths said, “On this Veterans Day, let us remember the service of those men and women who served in our military, and let us never forget the sacrifices they and their families gave so we can live free.”
