Greg Raths Announces Support of Two Pro-Life Bills

Greg Raths, Republican candidate for California’s 45th Congressional District, has announced his support of two pro-life bills: the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act and the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

The first bill, the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (Micah’s Law) is legislation the would ban a majority of abortions at the point when scientists agree that unborn children begin to feel pain in the womb (approximately 20 weeks). T he Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act was first introduced in Congress in 2013. It successfully passed the House of Representatives in 2013, 2015, and 2017. The bill has twice received a majority of votes in the Senate, but has failed to reach the 60 votes required to break a filibuster.

The second bill, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act protects a child who is born alive, despite an attempted abortion, by requiring doctors to care for the child as they would any other child born at the same age. The bill, S. 311 was introduced by United States Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) in 2019.

Greg Raths was quoted as saying:
“I am proud to be pro-life. When I am your representative, I will fight to make sure that every newborn baby has a fighting chance. In 2002, Republicans and Democrats came together to ensure that children born alive are recognized as persons under federal law. We must protect the civil rights of our most vulnerable population: the unborn.”
