Greg Raths Wins Republican Nomination; Will Advance To November General Election
In California’s 45th congressional district, retired Marine Colonel and Mission Viejo City Councilman Greg Raths has finished on top of a crowded Republican field to secure his place on the November general election ballot. Raths is set to face Katie Porter, which is likely to be one of the most highly-targeted and expensive races in the United States.
Greg Raths was quoted as saying:
“We didn’t start off with much money or endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Washington or in a smoke filled room… It began in a backyard in Mission Viejo and in the living rooms of Orange County families.
This campaign was driven by and for the people. It was built by moms and dads, sisters and brothers, aunts and uncles, & friends and strangers. This campaign was lifted up by hundreds of co-pilots who stepped up and offered up $5, $10 and $20 to help us build a competitive organization. This campaign was built by ordinary citizens who believed in something bigger than themselves and wanted to be a part of something that they could be proud of.
This victory proved that the voice of the people is louder than the voice of career politicians like Katie Porter. This victory is not my victory. This victory is your victory. This victory is our victory.
Many of my volunteers did not do this to win an election. They did it because they understand the impasse that our nation is currently facing. Even as we celebrate, we know that the challenges that lie ahead are some of the greatest in our lifetime. With those great challenges comes great accomplishments, and I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that together we can overcome anything that we may face.
This victory is much larger than myself or any one individual. This is the beginning of a new era of leadership for our district and I couldn’t be more proud of being a part of it.
We are happy with the results and look forward to the battle ahead. The people of Orange County can rest assured that I will use every breath in my body to fight for the people of the 45th congressional district.”
