MISSION VIEJO MAYOR BLASTS FEDERAL BUDGET DEAL

Today, Mission Viejo’s Mayor, Greg Raths, blasted the Budget deal between the White House and Congressional Democrats as a “hopeless mess”. Raths, a Trump backer explained, “I support our President, but I have to call them as I see them, and I do NOT support the President on this bill. Ronald Reagan said that “government always finds a need for whatever money it gets”. Those words are still true today. “In the two years that the president has been in office, the national debt has increased by 10%. Put differently–caused by Congress spending money it didn’t have—the debt has increased by two TRILLION dollars. It took from the founding of the Republic until 1986 for the debt to even reach two trillion dollars, and now the Democrat Congress has matched that in only two years. “The deal isn’t done yet. Republicans should rally together and defeat this insane spending bill. We can no longer mortgage our children’s future. We must balance the budget. The only way to do that is to reject this monstrosity of a bill”, Raths observed. “When a president says ‘Read my lips’, I listen. President Trump ran on a platform promising to balance the budget. I read his lips in 2016, and they are saying something entirely different today. I say to the President: Read MY lips, BALANCE THE BUDGET!”

GOING TO MARS IN 2030 REQUIRES AN IMMEDIATE INCREASE IN NASA FUNDING

Mission Viejo’s Mayor Greg Raths, a decorated Marine jet fighter pilot, today recalled watching the moon landing as a 15-year old. “The entire world was amazed at the bravery of our astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins, and in awe seeing Armstrong take ‘one giant leap for mankind’”, Raths said today. “I was so proud to be an American on the day that my country won the space race. On that and every day since I have known that ours is truly the greatest nation on earth!” Noting that yesterday’s National Review magazine published an article “America’s New Crisis of Confidence”, Raths pointed out that view is limited to Democrats: “Katie Porter thinks that patriotism is wrong. She doesn’t believe in ‘American Exceptionalism’. Well I do. When I put on my country’s uniform and went into combat I never thought the day would come when members of Congress demand impeachment of a president for saying, in effect, ‘America, Love it or Leave it’. When Katie Porter cried out earlier this month for impeachment, I was heartsick that she is representing me in Congress.”

The time has come for America to fully commit to putting a man on Mars. In December 2003, Buzz Aldrin called for NASA to go to Mars. When President Obama and the Democrats in Congress defunded NASA in 2010, Raths agreed with Neil Armstrong, when he observed: "When President Obama recently released his budget for NASA, he proposed a slight increase in total funding...the accompanying decision to cancel the Constellation program, its Ares 1 and Ares V rockets, and the Orion spacecraft, is devastating."

But today, Raths believes, we are on the right path. “NASA’s ‘Journey to Mars’ Program will bring huge advances in technology and science with practical benefits long before man ever sets foot on the Red Planet. But the House of Representatives has ignored the White House’s supplemental NASA budget request for 2020. If elected to Congress, I pledge to fully support funding for NASA”, Raths promised.

“I will always be proud of my country and the brave men of Apollo 11. Although written decades before their mission, the poet beautifully captured the vision of Armstrong, Collins and Aldrin on that fateful day 50 yeas ago: ‘I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle, flew; and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God."

MISSION VIEJO MAYOR GREG RATHS DENOUNCES GAS TAX INCREASE

Denouncing California’s tax and spend Democrats, Mission Viejo Mayor Greg Raths noted that “Today California's gas tax increases by nearly six cents per gallon to more than 60 cents per gallon, making it the highest in the nation. This unnecessary boondoggle will confiscate nearly $54 billion in the next decade from hard working Californians.”

Raths noted that S.B. 1, the original measure that is now going into full effect today, was sold to voters with the promise that the monies raised would be spent to repair roads. “Of course,” Raths noted, “it will actually be spent wherever the legislature chooses to spend it, and since the liberals who run California and who seem determined to bankrupt our state, waste the majority of tax revenues trying to turn California into their version of an anti-business socialist utopia, we can little hope the promised road improvements will actually be made. Even if they are, they should have been funded by cutting spending, and not by new taxes.” Raths, who presides over a large city whose budget has been balanced every year he has served on City Council, quipped “this isn’t highway improvement, its highway robbery!”

“Of course, the Democrats in Washington want to do the same thing to our country as their Sacramento pals are doing to our fair state.  Among the worst offenders in Washington is Katie Porter, the Elizabeth Warren-protégé who fluked into office last November.”

Raths, who spent 30 years in the US Marine Corps piloting combat aircraft, is running to replace Porter in Orange County’s 45th District. Until Porter’s recent election, Mission Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Hills and the other cities comprising the district had never been represented by a Democrat in Congress. “I don’t even think she wanted to be elected, but she is delivering on her campaign promises. That,” Raths said, “is precisely the problem!”
